Join us and start a social justice fire...

Introducing IGNITE

Intended to start a social justice fire, our programme of training, knowledge exchange and networking, delivered in partnership by Consort Strategy and the Institute of Association Leadership, is designed to equip organisations with the expertise for supporting delivery of the UN's Sustainable Development Goals.

ABOUT IGNITE

STARTING A SOCIAL JUSTICE FIRE

To mark the fifth anniversary of the Paris Agreement, Consort Strategy in partnership with the Institute of Association Leadership, are proud to launch IGNITE: a social purpose training and knowledge exchange programme, the focus of which is to explore and iterate the pivotal role that professional associations, membership bodies, learned societies, and professional institutes can play in advancing the UN’s Sustainable Development Goals.

In 2015 the International Chamber of Commerce and UN Global Impact published a report on the contributions that business associations and sector initiatives can make to global sustainable development. Arguably, in the five years since publication this report, the association sector has not yet realised its potential and yet, as you know the imperatives to tackle climate change, sustainable development, and social justice are increasingly urgent. Given the reach and influence that business associations can wield in terms of enhancing business policy, education and practice, we recognise our role in providing them with pragmatic and realistic ideas and solutions so that they in turn can support their members and fulfil their potential as societal catalysts for change.

2021 PROGRAMME

We will be delivering a 12-month programme, commencing in January 2021 which will consist of:

  • The formation of a global policy think tank; which will produce
  • A social purpose white paper series;
  • A monthly Masterclass programme;
  • IGNITE focused podcasts delivered via Good Enough for Jazz and Association Transformation;
  • Workshops (launching in March 2021);
  • 'In conversation with...' sustainability and association leaders events; and
  • A 2-day IGNITE summit in December 2021.

How to be successfully sustainable

The term 'sustainability' is ubiquitous. We try to shop and consume sustainably to ensure a sustainable future. Advocacy groups, local governments and the United Nations promote sustainable development for a more stable world. Investors and young employees are putting intense value on analysing a corporation's sustainability practices. Corporations are therefore making pledges to become "net-zero" by the 2040s and are cracking down on sustainability strategies and practices just to survive. As the world evolves the value of sustainability is growing exponentially. But what does being successfully sustainable actually look like? This is the question Andrew explores with net-zero specialist Kevin Couling. Project Director at Hoare Lea, Kevin has worked in sustainable development for many years. Together they discuss what successful sustainability looks like in practice, not just in theory.

THE SOCIAL RESPONSIBILITY OF ASSOCIATIONS

This week, Andrew and Elisa are joined by Richard Collins of CSR-Accreditation to discuss what associations can do to address their social responsibility and help their members do the same. Together, they delve into what social responsibility means in the context of associations and non-profits, what creating a standard of social responsibility actually looks like, and how associations and their members can realise these standards and achieve accreditation.
